Requirements to Obtain the Border Card in Colombia
The border card allows Venezuelans living on the border to move freely in Colombia for up to 7 consecutive days. Learn the requirements to obtain it.
There are people in the neighboring country of Venezuela who, because they live on the border with Colombia, need to obtain the border card to be able to circulate freely in the country for up to 7 consecutive days.
This important document is requested at the border posts of both countries in order to identify those people who regularly circulate in the border area.
Identification
The first requirement to be able to process your border card is to present your identity card if you are of legal age. In the case of being a minor, you must present the birth certificate.
It is also required to have at least one document that certifies that you are registered with the CNE (Venezuela's National Electoral Council).
Proof of residence
You must present a document that proves your residence in the border area. The accepted documents include:
- Public utility bills in your name
- Study certificates from institutions in the area
- Work certificates that indicate your place of work
- Proof generated by some entity or legal organization that proves you are authorized to live and/or transit in the border area
It is important to check with the Colombian border posts for the updated requirements, as they may vary according to the current migration regulations of both countries.
