The department of Huila belongs to the Andean region of Colombia, located in the southwest of the country on the upper Magdalena River, between the Central and Eastern mountain ranges. It is a land of astonishing contrasts: it is home to the Tatacoa Desert, one of the most important deserts in Colombia, and also the imposing Colombian Massif where the Magdalena, Cauca and Patía rivers are born. Its archaeological wealth, represented in the San Agustín Archaeological Park and the Tierradentro Archaeological Park, makes it a world-class destination. DATE OF FOUNDATION OF MUNICIPALITIES OF HUILA

Neiva was founded for the first time in 1539 by Juan de Cabrera, although its definitive foundation in its current location dates from 1612. However, San Agustín is considered the oldest inhabited territory in Huila, with a pre-Columbian civilization that left the most important archaeological legacy in Colombia, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1995. MUNICIPALITIES OF HUILA NEAR NEIVA

Neiva, the capital of Huila and home of the Bambuco Folk Festival, is the main development hub of southwestern Colombia. The surrounding municipalities have consolidated a close relationship with the capital, both due to their geographical proximity and the commercial and mobility links generated by the city's economic and educational dynamics.
