DATE OF FOUNDATION OF MUNICIPALITIES OF CHOCÓ
Nóvita was the first capital of the province of Chocó during the colonial era, which makes it one of the oldest municipalities in the department. Quibdó was founded in 1654 by Franciscan missionaries and consolidated as the department capital thanks to its strategic location on the Atrato River.

Quibdó, the capital of Chocó, is located on the banks of the Atrato River and is the connection hub of the department.
