DATE OF FOUNDATION OF MUNICIPALITIES OF ATLÁNTICO
The city of Barranquilla is the capital of the department of Atlántico and although its official founding dates back to 1813, its origins as a settlement date back to the early 18th century. One of the oldest municipalities in the region is Santo Tomás, founded in 1585 as an indigenous reduction during the Spanish colony. Complete list:

Barranquilla, the fourth largest city in Colombia, has generated a recognized metropolitan area that integrates several neighboring municipalities.
