The department of Guaviare is home to the Serranía de la Lindosa, known as the "Amazonian of the rock paintings", and access to the Serranía de Chiribiquete National Natural Park, Colombia's largest national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. San José del Guaviare is the town that has grown the most in national tourism in recent years, thanks to the opening of new nature destinations that include crystal clear streams, natural pools, sandbanks and more than 12,000 rock art figures discovered in La Lindosa.

ECOTOURISM AND NATURE IN GUAVIARE
Guaviare is a transition zone between the Llanos and the Amazon, creating a unique transitional biodiversity: plains and Amazon plants coexist. The Guaviare River visually separates the ecosystems. Nukak National Park protects the territory of the Nukak-Maku indigenous people, one of the last nomads in Colombia.
CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL HERITAGE OF GUAVIARE
The petroglyphs and rock paintings of La Lindosa are the oldest evidence of human presence in the Colombian Amazon. The Nukak-Maku communities are forest nomads with a unique shamanic worldview. Community tourism in Guaviare is driven by peasant families offering accommodation and local guides.

Flights from Bogotá to San José del Guaviare (1 h, Satena). Bus from Bogotá (14–16 h, not recommended). From San José, car tours to La Lindosa (20 min) or boat to Chiribiquete.
