The department of Sucre offers quiet Caribbean beaches on the Gulf of Morrosquillo and the colonial heritage of Tolú and Coveñas, more accessible and less crowded alternatives to Cartagena. ECOTOURISM AND NATURE IN SUCRE
The La Mojana region is one of the most important wetlands in the Colombian Caribbean, with over 500,000 ha of interconnected swamps. The San Bernardo Islands have coral reefs with high marine biodiversity. La Caimanera swamp has one of the largest populations of American crocodiles in the country.
CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL HERITAGE OF SUCRE
The Sincelejo corralejas (January) are a unique popular bullfighting event in Colombia where the public participates in the ring. Mompox silver filigree is a precision craft with 400 years of tradition. Vallenato music and pelayero porro are local musical expressions of Sucre.

HOW TO GET THERE
Las Brujas airport in Corozal, flights from Bogotá (1.5 h). Bus from Cartagena (4 h) or Barranquilla (5 h). To Tolú from Sincelejo: 1 h by bus. To Mompox: bus to Magangué + boat.
