Tourism in Bolívar
Tourism guide to Bolívar: Cartagena de Indias UNESCO World Heritage, Rosario Islands, Mompox, Ciénaga de la Virgen, beaches and how to get there.
Bolívar is the quintessential Caribbean department of Colombia and home to one of the most famous tourist destinations in Latin America: Cartagena de Indias, Walled City declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. With its intact colonial architecture, 16th-century walls, San Felipe de Barajas Castle and its Caribbean beaches, Cartagena is the gateway for international tourists to Colombia. But Bolívar has more: the riverside city of Mompox (also a UNESCO World Heritage site), the Rosario Islands with their coral reefs and the Canal del Dique.
The department concentrates its most developed tourist offering in Cartagena, with luxury hotels, world-class restaurants and one of the most sophisticated gastronomic scenes in the Colombian Caribbean. Bolívar receives over 3 million tourists per year, making it the third most visited destination in Colombia.
