Tourism in Valle del Cauca

Tourism guide to Valle del Cauca: Cali and its salsa, Buga, Buenaventura, Garrapatas Canyon, Calima Lake and the Cali Fair in December.

Tourism in Valle del Cauca

Valle del Cauca is the most visited Pacific department in Colombia and the home of Cali, the World Capital of Salsa. Colombia's third-largest city is synonymous with joy, rhythm and a unique cultural identity: Cali-style salsa —with its fast footwork and continuous turns— is danced in neighborhoods, academies and dance halls of southwestern Colombia and has conquered the entire world. But the Valley has more than Cali: the Basilica of the Lord of Miracles in Buga, the port of Buenaventura with its Afro-Pacific culture, Calima Lake for water sports and the Garrapatas Canyon for ecotourism.

The department has 42 municipalities and a geography ranging from the Cauca River valley —one of the most fertile in the country, with sugarcane and tropical fruits— to the humid Pacific jungle. The Valley receives over 5 million tourists per year.
